Much has been written documenting the improvements in productivity that engineering organizations are achieving through the use of CAD/CAM technology. Gains in productivity came from the speed of these systems in preparing drawings, and, more importantly, in processing changes and in making drawings similar to existing drawings. Computer-generated drawings had the added advantage of high accuracy, legibility, and consistency. The Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. (LMSC) uses its CADAM system in the design process. LMSC has 450 CADAM terminals. All terminals connect to a central host computer with shared on-line files. the terminals have virtually replaced drafting boards throughout the facility.
