Most turbine manufacturers supply both steam and gas turbines. Presently, turbine manufacturers are faced with difficult problems which are partially created by overexpansion of the turbine manufacturers themselves. This was due to anticipation of a high demand that turned around principally as a result of the worldwide recession. There had been predictions of large growth in the electric utility industry, in ship transportation, and industrial power users so the turbine industry geared up for it. The predictions, however, did not materialize and there is a surplus of both manufacturing capacity and machinery. In general there has been a declining market but the market should improve according to current predictions.
