The extruder has grown to become one of the most important manufacturing machines in the rubber processing industry because of the increasing use of natural and synthetic rubber over several decades. Based on quality and economic reasons in many different production areas the cold feed extruder has largely superceded the hot feed extruder. This paper covers the following topics: benefits of cold feed; improving quality and output; screw design; pin extruder; vacuum extruder; extruding profiles; physical characteristics of the vulcanizing units; pick-a-back plants; screen and die-changers.
