摘要
Koeberg will be the first nuclear power station to be constructed in South Africa. Its location is on the farm Duynefontein, almost 30 km north of Cape Town and is programmed to start generating from the first of two units in late 1982 with the second unit following a year later. The type of reactor chosen by ESCOM is a light water reactor of the pressurised type and the station is being constructed by a consortium of French manufacturers. The main factors investigated leading to the decision by ESCOM to build a nuclear power station are outlined together with the reasons for choice of reactor type and unit size. Several unique features of site investigation and preparation are described and a general description of some of the major plant items is given.
