MANUFACTURE OF SEAMLESS TUBES.

The main process stages of seamless tube production are described. The major processes currently applied for the production of seamless tubes are compared on the basis of the starting material used for tube production with respect to the estimated capacity of the plant and to the size range of the rolled products; the advantages and disadvantages of each process are emphasized. In addition to economic considerations, such as capital outlay, qualification of personnel, start-up time and maintenance expenditure, which play an important role in the planning of the plant, particular attention is given to production capacity and to the attainable product quality. Appropriate plant basic designs for various product size ranges are proposed.
