摘要：

The state of the art semiconductor technology enables commercial 16-bit single-board-computers to be used for protection tasks in electrical power systems. A prototype of a digital distance-protection relay was investigated in short-circuit field tests in a 20-kv network. The author summarizes the results of the tests and describes a concept based on microcomputers for protection and control tasks in substations.
