Rate constants for the decomposition reactions of cellulose xanthate have been determined in spinning viscose films into sulfuric acid baths having acid concentrations of 100-1100 g/liter. On the basis of the data obtained, it may be suggested that the considerable retardation of the rate of CX decompositon which is caused by increasing the sulfuric acid content of the precipitation bath creates conditions inside the fiber being spun for the formation of structural elements with a different degree of order of the molecules. This is reflected correspondingly in the physico-mechanical characteristics of the finished fibers.
