This paper is concerned with the C-C splitting initiators of the dibenzyl type which are ideally suitable for the hot curing of unsaturated polyester resins. Unlike peroxides, these initiators can be used without any problems since their decomposition is not exothermal and not affected by the presence of contaminants, additives or accelerators. They may even be used as reactive retarding agents for peroxides. Inhibitors specially suited for use in conjunction with C-C splitting initiators include quinones, e. g. benzoquinone. Phenolic inhibitors such as hydroquinone or ionol exhibit but little polymerization-retarding effect. For figures see German text.
