Structures and properties of castings produced by method of investment casting

Shell molds are widely applied in investment casting. Versions with the supporting filler and without it are used. Variation of heat transfer conditions of formation of casting leads to changing the physical and mechanical properties of it. This phenomenon has been investigated. Castings from 35KhGSL produced in silicate six-layer supporting filler have been studied. Results of investigations have shown that in case of shell mold without the supporting filler, density of casting is lower than that casting produced in shell mold with the supporting filler. Some characteristics are also different. Therefore, selection of shell mold allows to provide required properties of casting.
