摘要
Average seek time is one of the most significant parameers to consider in measuring and comparing disk drives. All manufacturers' drive specifications include values for track-to-track, average seek, and maximum seek times. However, comparing these specifications does not necessarily result in a reasonable comparison of seek performance between two drives. Moreover, several factors significantly influence overall seek time measurements and comparisons. These factors include head positioning time, when to start counting, head settling time, latency, sevo lock time, the capacity being accessed, and whether the specifications are for 'maximum' or 'typical' values.
