Structure of 2-(2-hydroxyethyl)l-(2-pyridyl)imidazo[1,5-a]pyridinium perchlorate

C14H14N3O+.ClO4, Mr = 339·7, monoclinic, P21/n,a= 10·781 (3),b = 17·519 (6), c = 8·155 (3)Å, β = 105·08(3)°, V= 1487·1 (9) Å3 Z = 4, Dm = 1·52, Dx= 1·52 g cm-3, λ(Mo Ka) = 0·71069 Å, μ = 2·83 cm-1, F(000) = 704, room temperature, R = 0·053 for 1804 observed reflections. X-ray and NMR data indicate bond localization in the imidazo[1,5-a]pyridinium ring system. The angle between the mean planes of the fused ring system and the pyridine ring is 43·2°. There is no indication of hydrogen bonding involving either the hydroxyl group or the perchlorate anion. © 1988 International Union of Crystallography.
