A new mathematical treatment of face boundary conditions is developed based on the theory of characteristic non-reflecting boundary conditions in this research. Several numerical tests are conducted, and it is found that this mathematical treatment is beneficial to the treatment of waves. A spatially evolving round jet is simulated by the direct numerical simulation method, and the numerical simulation results agree well with the experimental data, which verifies the feasibility of the new method proposed in this paper for treating face boundary conditions.
