The efficiency improvement of the asynchronous motor drives for electric vehicles is at the cost of deterioration of the dynamic response. A new strategy of fast transient torque response is proposed in this paper, which improves the torque response in dynamic processes. Combining with the idea of direct torque control, the rotor flux and electric magnetic torque of vector control system using in electric vehicle drives are used to choose the appropriate voltage space vector. The electromagnetic torque increases quickly in transient state without the limit of slow response of rotor magnetic field. Experimental results show that the dynamic performance is improved significantly by the proposed method. It is an efficient solution to reduce the tuning time and speed up the dynamic response.
