Based on the conventional clamping force control method for metal V-belt continuously variable transmission (CVT), the critical clamping force is obtained through bench test, and a temperature correction coefficient is introduced for considering the effects of temperature on clamping force. Then fuzzy algorithm is used to select the safety factors in various working conditions, and hence to determine the target clamping force of metal V-belt. The results of real vehicle test show that with the above-mentioned method, the target clamping force can be effectively reduced and the transmission efficiency of metal V-belt CVT is improved without slippage in metal-V-belt.
