Synthetic effect of both fourth-order dispersion and quintic nonlinearity on cross-phase modulation instability in region of minimum group-velocity dispersion

Taking into account high-order dispersion and high-order nonlinearity, the gain spectra of cross-phase modulation (XPM) instability in the region of minimum group-velocity dispersion of fiber was investigated based on extended nonlinear Schrödinger equation with fiber loss considered. The effects of fourth-order dispersion and quintic nonlinearity to the gain spectra were analyzed. The results show that the fourth-order dispersion, which increases the width of the gain spectra, dominates the modulation instability when the second-order dispersion approaches the minimum value at the zero dispersion wavelength. The positive (negative) quintic nonlinearity will make the width and the peak value of the gain spectra larger (smaller). The influence of the fourth-order dispersion to the gain spectra decreases with the increasing of the second-order dispersion.
