Australia will soon invite submissions for the design of a new intelligence facility, with construction aimed for completion by 2010-11. The purpose-built building will be situated within Canberra's security precinct, near other intelligence and law-enforcement agencies. It will house the Australian Security Intelligence Organizations (ASIO) and office of National Assessments (ONA). ONA is focused on intelligence analysis and has seen similar growth. The need for ASIO to be relocated followed from the findings of the Taylor review, which recommended the organization grow to 1,860 staff by 2010-11. The government allocated funding in the 2006-07 budget to strengthen ASIO's capability in a range of areas, including intelligence collection and assessment, surveillance, technical operations, border security and information technology systems.
