This paper deduce the general formula of counterforce on the pile head of pile foundation. It is analyzed that the formula in Technical Code for Building Pile Foundation(JGJ 94-2008) and Code for Design of Building Foundation(GB 50007-2012) is special case pointed in this paper, the formula in the two Codes is only valid in dealing with the symmetric arrangement of the equal diameter pile; Comparing the results of the two Codes and this paper, neither the symmetric arrangement of the unequal diameter pile nor the asymmetric arrangement of the equal diameter pile, there is a big error using the formula in the two Codes. Meanwhile, as creating coordinate system based on calculation, it is not centroid of bearing platform but centroid of group pile should be selected as the origin of coordinates. When calculating counterforce on the pile head, designers shall choose the reasonable formula according to pile arrangement. ©, 2015, Editorial Office of China Civil Engineering Journal.
