In some common textbooks or reference books concerning on polymer rheology, the concept of true viscosity of non-Newtonian fluid is explained unclear, and parts of the calculation results are wrong. In this paper, those questions were explained in detail. The authors made a distinction between the differential viscosity and the conventionally defined viscosity in capillary tubes, and some errors were corrected, and the analysis of example was given. Author expects this analysis is useful to further and more understand deeply the meaning of viscosity and to strengthen the teaching of this area and enable students to have further understanding of viscosity, improving the quality of teaching.
