By developing the traditional rotational viscometer, a controllable and variable magnetic field was obtained. By this viscometer, the viscosity of magnetic fluid was tested under the condition of changing temperature and magnetic field intensity. The experimental result shows that, viscosity of magnetic fluids increases with the increasing of magnetic field, and it shows significant non Newtonian characteristics. Actually, the reasons which indicate the increasing of viscosity is that suspended particles follow the direction of magnetic line when there is a magnetic field which will increase flow resistance. When without magnetic field, like other lubricant the viscosity of magnetic fluids decreases with the increasing of temperature and the law of viscosity variation with the temperature has a great effect on the viscosity variation of magnetic fluids, and conforms to Arrhenius formula.
