A novel multi-focus image fusion method based on fast wavelet transform

In order to get a clear image that contains all relevant objects in an area, this paper proposes a novel multi-focus image fusion algorithm based on fast wavelet transform. Different fusion approaches are conducted separately in low and high frequency domains after the fast wavelet transform. For coefficients of low frequency, each expected pixel is computed by summing the weighted coefficients from source images in the same position. While in high frequency, the coefficients from two or more source images are fused based on region and a new concept, region contrast is put forward for guiding the fusion process which indicates more obvious features of the coefficients. The results demonstrate the proposed image fusion algorithm could acquire better performance. Copyright © 2014 Binary Information Press.
