Analysis of labyrinth screw pump capability with numerical simulation

CFD software Fluent was applied to simulate the labyrinth screw pump, and the relation was analyzed between the capability and the structural parameters of the labyrinth screw pump. The analysis results show that the maximal value of the pump head coefficient declines when the flow rate increases; the range of flow rate declines obviously and the efficiency under same flow rate increases when the helix angle increases, and the maximal head coefficient is gotten with 60 degree helix angle; when the radial clearance reduces, the flow rate range declines too, and the efficiency under same flow rate enhances; when the width of thread ridge increases, the flow rate range declines little; and the efficiency under same flow rate enhances; when the thread groove width reduces, the flow rate range declines obviously, and the efficiency under same flow rate enhances; when thread depth reduces, the flow rate range declines rapidly, and the efficiency under same flow rate enhances obviously.
