We have developed a prototype full-resolution Super Hi-Vision (SHV) plasma display panel (PDP) that has 4,320 scanning lines and over 33 million pixels. SHV has four times as many scanning lines as Hi-Vision, so it requires high speed driving. To drive 4,320 scanning lines stably, we applied a new driving method to the prototype PDP. The highly realistic SHV programs were the first successfully to be reproduced on 145-inch diagonal PDPs with 0.417-mm pixel pitch. We evaluated the image quality of the prototype SHV PDP and confirmed that it had a wide viewing angle and over 4,000 TV lines for a static image.
