An approximate 3DOF model for transmission tower-line system was established, which combines the softening nonlinear stiffness of tower by static FEM analysis and the dynamic characteristics of conductor distorted under mean wind load. Utilizing the method of statistical linearization, the analytical solution of stochastic response of tower-line coupled system under strong wind was derived. Comparing with numerical simulation, the results show that the analytical solution obtained by the herein developed procedure is enough precise for engineering use, and can be taken as an auxiliary tool in judgment of critical wind speed.
