3D numerical simulation for hydraulic characteristics of turbulent flow in bifurcated duct

A 3D numerical model in boby-fitted coordinate system was established to investigate the hydraulic characteristics of turbulent flow in bifurcate duct. In the mathematical calculation the modified k-Ε turbulence model, finite volume method and collocated grid system were adopted. The flow parameters at the control surface were obtained by momentum interpolation method, and the SIMPLEC algorithm was used in coupling calculation of velocity field and stress. The 3D hydraulic characteristics of flows in a bend square duct were computed, and the comparison between numerical simulation results and experimental data shows that good agreement is achieved. Finally, the proposed model was used to predict the hydraulic characteristics of flows in a bifurcated square duct.
