The development and use of a Ku-band 4-bit compact octave bandwidth GaAs MMIC phase shifter are discussed. The GaAs device is 2.6 mm2 in size and includes a 4-bit phase shifter; along with digital drivers that achieve an RMS phase error of less than 4. The device also achieves an RMS amplitude error of less than 0.3 dB; with an insertion loss of less than 6 dB over the operating band. The technology continues to develop; resulting in the design of a compact MMIC phase shifter chip. The new Ku-band compact GaAs MMIC phase shifter has been develop; as several X; or Ku-band applications require multi-bit compact and low-cost phase shifters. These devices are required to adjust the transreceiver phase in both transmit and receive modes for beam steering; programmable; and digital bidirectional-phase shifters;
