Hybrid algorithm of particle swarm optimization and artificial bee colony with its application in wireless sensor networks

Artificial bee colony algorithm is a new intelligent optimization algorithm. To overcome the shortcomings of ABC, such as low searching accuracy and easy to fall into local optima for some partial functions, we propose a particle swarm optimization and artificial bee colony integrated algorithm (PABC). The PABC takes full advantage of particle swarm optimization and artificial bee colony. The algorithm divides the individuals into two subgroups: subgroup A and subgroup B. Subgroup A evolves according to the artificial bee colony model; subgroup B evolves according to the particle swarm optimization model. Two groups have some mutual individuals to exchange information. Our proposed PABC algorithm effectively improves the optimization accuracy and increases the optimization effect with the stabilized population diversity. The PABC algorithm is applied to the coverage optimization problem in wireless sensor networks. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better coverage optimization results.
