Ni-P and Ni-W-P coatings on Cr12MoV die steel were obtained by electroless plating, and then were heat-treated at 500 . Composition, structure and properties of the coatings were investigated by structure analysis, mechanical properties testing and corrosion test in 5% H2SO4 solution. The results show that the coatings are uniform and continuous; the coating is well bound to the substrate. Amorphous phase is observed in the coating and it is crystallized after heat treatment, the Ni3P phase is precipitated. Compared with the coatings without heat treatment, the hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the heat-treated coatings improve significantly.
