The Russian Defence Minister has reported about the Kremlin plans to fund several major Russian Federation Navy (RFN) upgrade and life-extension programs. The Minister stated that the RFN's sole remaining Project 1143.5/6 Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, will be overhauled and updated to enable it to remain in service until 2030. The RFN is also to allocate some much-needed spending on its submarine fleet, primarily to get the three Project 955 Borey-class ballistic missile submarines under construction at Sevmashpredpriyatiye shipyard back on track. The RFN is also expected to carry out a range of upgrades for the ageing Project 941 Typhoon (Akula) and Project 667 Delta (Delfin/Kalmar) classes of ballistic missile submarines.
