摘要
The authors confront an analysis developed in two Canadian articles on the basic principles and mistakes to avoid when designing sustainable forest management indicator systems with their own experience in the area of forest management and policy, and project and programme methods for environmental evaluation. The comparison highlights the special attention, when choosing indicators, that needs to be paid to the evaluation methods, the aims of the evaluators and issues relating to geographic and time scales. Attention is also drawn to the fact that the choice of a system of multiple indicators sometimes conceals implicit ranking, as well as to the need to clearly define the scope of evaluation (which does not always coincide with that of the policy decision). © AgroParisTech, 2013.
