In order to improve the quality and service level of high-speed railway subgrade engineering in China, focusing on the four major themes of structure type, material performance, design method, application and effect, this paper systematically sorted out the research status, engineering application and existing problems of railway asphalt concrete structure at home and abroad, and discussed the development trend of high-speed railway subgrade asphalt concrete structure. The analysis results show that the full-section asphalt concrete structure should be regarded as a part of the surface of the subgrade, which can reduce the stress level of the subgrade structure, improve the vibration characteristics of the track-subgrade system, and has prominent technical and economic advantages in the whole life cycle with the functions of waterproofing, bearing capacity, vibration reduction, noise reduction and isolation. Finally, it is pointed out that the research on the preparing technology that adapts to the complex climatic conditions along "the Belt and Road Initiatives", the design method based on structure and performance, the evaluation of long-term service performance, the structure optimization of track and subgrade system, etc. are the future development trends of high-speed railway subgrade asphalt concrete structure. © 2022, Department of Journal of the China Railway Society.
