A large number of non-ionic surfactants are discharged into water, which cause deterioration of water quality. Non-ionic surfactants have become an indicator of water quality monitoring. This article provides an overview of the classification of non-ionic surfactants, introduces the nature and hazards of fatty alcohol ethoxylates and alkyl phenol ethoxylates, and analyzes determination of non-ionic surfactants. Gas chromatography - mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry method are the focuses of the rapid development. © 2014, Journal of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Research.
