摘要
The sustainable development charity Forum for the Future has developed the Engineers of the 21st Century program, to equip and inspire the new generation of engineering professionals in creating sustainable development programs. The program was started by a group of young engineers, who wanted to investigate the level of sustainable development programs carried out within the engineering profession. The group prepared and published a concluding report in 2000, highlighting specific issues that engineers needed to address, to carry out sustainable development programs. Another group of 12 young engineers from a number of partner companies and organizations started the second phase of the program in 2003, to assess the level of progress made in adopting sustainable development programs within the engineering profession. One of the key factors that influenced such programs, included choosing a sustainability option, which is cost-effective and easier for clients and contractors.
