A numerical simulation method of reducing the convective momentum term of open-channel transcritical flow equations is studied by theoretical analysis and numerical simulation in this article. The analysis shows that deletion of this term improves numerical stability of different schemes and always produces stable solution. We put forth a new deletion method that gradually reduces the first part of the term according to Froude number, while keeping the second part untouched. This method is verified with a simulation example of flow in a rectangular open channel.
