After final heat treatment, the welded joints in Du 850 pipelines of the main circulation circuit, produced by automatic argon-shielded arc welding, contained cracks in the surface layer. Sections were taken from the damaged areas for metallographic studies to determine the nature and reasons for the formation of cracks. The results show that the cracks are typical reheat cracks caused by the given technology. © 2015, © 2015 Taylor & Francis.
