COupled conduction-radiation heat transfer problem for three-dimensional complex geometry

Combined conduction-radiation problem within an absorbing and emitting medium is solved using the unstructured control volume finite element method (CVFEM) in 3-D complex geometry. Mathematical formulations as well as numerical implementations are given, followed by a description of resolution procedure. In order to test the efficiency of the developed method, several complex geometries including a cylindrical ring enclosure, a 3-D L-shaped enclosure and a 3-D equilateral triangular enclosure are examined. Compared with the published results, the present CVFEM can predict accurately the coupled conduction-radiation transfer in 3-D complex geometry with reasonable numbers of spatial and angular grids.
