SA Mathieson shared his views on how the role biometric technology in the development and operation of the national identification (ID) process in the UK. The Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 addressed the use of biometrics for ID in schools. Parents needed to give permission to the use and storage of their child's biometric data and children had the right to reject such permission and override that and withdraw consent. These and several other factors created significant challenges in the use of biometrics for the development and operation of the national identification process in the country. SA Mathieson regretted about any chance of biometrics being used of playing a key role in the development and operation of the national ID process in the country in the future.
