Study of properties of carbon nanotubes/cyanate ester composites

Carboxyl group, ethylenediamine(EDA), diaminodiphenyl methane(DDM), diaminediphenyl ether(DDE) and p-aminobenzoic acid(p-ABA) were grafted to the surface of multi-wall carbon nanotubes(MWCNT) by covalent bond linkage. Composites of cyanate ester and modified MWCNTs modified on different methods were prepared. And the effects of MWCNTs on the properties of cyanates composites were studied here. The results show that the composites of carbon nanotubes modified with p-ABA/cyanates composites exhibit the best performance with the increment of bending strength of 17.6% and impact strength of 24.6%. The addition of CNT does not change the Tg of cyanate ester resin significantly. And the test of gel point show that CNTs play some kinds of accelerating role on cure of cyanates.
