摘要
Using different metal oxides as adsorbents, we investigated the removal of arsenic from aqueous solutions, as well as the effect of pH on such removal. The adsorption mechanisms of As(III) and As(V) were considered by measuring the zeta potential of the metal oxides before and after adsorption of arsenic. Coulombic forces between positively charged metal oxides and As(V) anionic species are predominant in adsorption when pH is below the isoelectric points of the metal oxides. We consider that As(III) existing as a neutral species below pH7.0 is adsorbed due to chemical action. We synthesized y -Fe2O 3 that had a specific surface area of 52.3m2/g and used it in arsenic removal experiments. Removal of both As(III) and As(V) was higher when using the synthesized γ-Fe2O3 than when the other metal oxides were used.
