Automatic composition of Web services is a challenging task as independently developed Web services are not always compatible with each other. In order to resolve the heterogeneity between Web services and improve the quality of Web service composition, we propose a new approach based on semantics for Web service composition, which widely deploys Petri Nets and ontology. This paper proposes a framework for semantic Web service composition that builds Petri net model of interactions between Web services and builds ontology representing domain knowledge, then combines the Petri net models with ontology-based mediation. © 2014 SERSC.
