A kind of artifical bone which was a composite of CeO2 stabilified tetragonal phase zirconia porous ceramic within H-Z coating and bone morphogenesis protein (BMP) of pig was studied in this paper. The result showed that the average porosity, water absorption, volume density, fracture toughness and microhardness(HV) of the porous layer of hydroxyapatite were 34.95%, 8.63%, 3.84g/cm3, 10.95 MPa · m1/2 and 1 015, respectively. XRD patterns and SEM micrographs show that the phase of the body is t-ZrO2 and the crystal phase of the H-Z coating are t-ZrO2, m-ZrO2, d-TCP and a small quantity of HA. The porous structure is propitious to the growth of bone tissue and pBMP and the formation of chemical bond, in order to obtain permanent biological fixation. The biocompatibility and bone formation inducing ability of the material were very well so as to accelerate the formation of the new bone and the reparation of the bony injuries.
