摘要
Track bed layers have an important role in track performance with respect to track support stiffness, maintenance of track geometry and drainage. The general term for track bed layer refers to both ballast and sub-ballast layers. In this study, ballast standards and specifications throughout the world were summarized and compared with each other. In addition, ballast contamination was assessed by reviewing existing methods commonly used for evaluating the degree of ballast fouling with their limitations. Eventually within the scope of the above studies, a numerical model for realistic prediction of stresses and displacements inside the track support structure was developed by using finite element method. The track was modelled as a multi-layer system and two-dimensional finite element models were built. The power trend line was used to present the vertical displacement, moment on rail element and stresses in the ballast layer that compare measurements increasing at a specific rate. © Civil-Comp Press, 2012
