The series composed of two-dimension beam mode function is used to approximate the transverse displacement function of a visco-elastic cantilevered plate. The transverse deformation of a visco-elastic plate subjected to a concentrated force is calculated through the Ritz's method. By solving the Lagrange's equation, the frequencies and model loss factors for free vibration of the plate are obtained, and the transient response of the visco-elastic cantilevered plate, subjected to a sudden withdrawal of the concentrated force, is obtained by using the method of mode superposition. The effects of loss factor, module and thickness of viscoelastic layer on the response are analyzed, too.
