Promising progress in the east

Bulgaria is nestled on the southeastern foot of Europe with Romania to the north, Serbia and Macedonia to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south and the Black Sea abutting its east. The country is a prime example of a fledgling trenchless sector. Trenchless Technology (BATT), established in 2007 and the first associated member of the International Society for Trenchless Technology in the Balkans, is working to change this. Cured-in-place pipe technology was used for the rehabilitation of the water mains. For a 320m section of the pipeline the pull-in liner method was used. By using another trenchless technology, namely pipe ramming, many installations of casing pipes under highways and railways have been implemented. A test field will also be established in the grounds of the institution where different trenchless technologies will be demonstrated on-site, new materials, machines and methods will be tested and the results of these will be processed and assessed in a laboratory at the center.
