摘要
The latest video coding standard H.264/AVC includes many coding tools to improve the motion compensation efficiency. This paper describes the overlapped block motion estimation and compensation (OBMC) algorithm to further increase the coding performance of the H.264/AVC encoder. The algorithm adapts the overlapped weighting factors to the coding mode of neighboring blocks, which enables efficient integration of OBMC with variable block size motion compensation in H.264. Tests show that this integration of OBMC provides peak signal noise ratio (PSNR) gains of up to 0.21 dB with high bit-rate encoding.
