In view of the uncertainty of parameters in vehicle occupant restraint system caused by the factors of manufacturing and measurement, on the base of describing uncertainty by using interval method, an uncertainty optimization model for vehicle occupant restraint system is built, which is solved by using nonlinear interval number optimization algorithm based on sequential linear programming. This technique is applied to the optimization of the driver restraint system in a mini-bus. Compared with the traditional deterministic optimization, it can not only improve the protection performance, but also enhance the reliability of occupant restraint system.
