1, 3-propanediol production from glycerol by Klebsiella pneumoniae under non-strict anaerobic condition

Considering that the current bioproduction of 1, 3-propanediol is mainly carried out under strict anaerobic conditions, which requires airtight production equipment and large amount of nitrogen to maintain the oxygen free conditions in the fermentation system, and the production procedure demands quite complex operation technique which leads to high cost, an endure-oxygen Klebsiella pneumoniae strain ZU-05 was used to produce 1, 3-propanediol from glycerol under non-strict anaerobic conditions, and the main fermentation parameters were optimized. Under the non-strict anaerobic condition with 20 g/L glycerol, 6 g/L corn syrup, 8 g/L glucose and inoculation volume of 10% at pH 6.7, 37°C, the utilizing rate of glycerol and yield of 1, 3-Propanediol were 95% and 51% within 60 h, respectively. The results are meaningful for simplifying the procedure and increasing the profit of production from glycerol to 1, 3-propanediol.
