As the key component of preparatory work in construction, installation and maintenance of fiber optic cable is the location, the research on fiber-optic cable location method is important. Currently, the main location method used is the OTDR based on Fresnel reflection. In this paper, a new fiber optic cable location method was proposed, which is based on Sagnac effect and fiber-optic sensing theory combined with corresponding optical phase modulation and demodulation technology, to locate the cable position effectively. This paper expounded the detection principle of the method and the structure of the system. The phase variation of optical signal caused by interference signal was analyzed. The positioning principle of the method was studied and simulation on the method was conducted. On the basis of theoretical analysis, appropriate experimental test platform was set up, where the feasibility of the method was verified. The experimental results showed that the method can locate the position of the interference signal accurately. ©, 2015, Science Press. All right reserved.
