摘要
Carbides evolution during heat treatment of a spray formed high speed steel(SF HSS) was investigated. The experimental results show that carbides segregation in the HSS can be eliminated and homogeneous microstructure with uniform distribution of carbides in the steel is obtained after spray forming, the as-sprayed microstructure consists of plate-shaped M2C carbides and fine spherical MC carbides. The metastable M2C carbides are fully decomposed into MC and M6C carbides after forging and annealing. The microstructure of the as-quenched steel consists of martensite, retained austenite and undissolved carbides. Triple high temperature tempering promotes the formation of a large number of fine carbide particles and results in the secondary hardnening, which contributes to the improvement in hardness and toughness of the steel. SF HSS exhibits excellent performance after heat treatment. © 2015, Editorial Office of TRANSACTIONS OF MATERIALS AND HEAT TREATMENT. All right reserved.
