General analysis of output resistance of digital-selecting type switched-capacitor power supply

Switched-capacitor (SC) power supply is composed of capacitors and switches. Since it does not contain any magnetic components, it can be made in small size and light weight and it generates little magnetic noise. A lot of type SC power supplies are presented until now. In the conventional SC power supplies, all capacitor voltages are the same. Therefore, the output resistance can be derived easily. In a digital-selecting type proposed recently, however, it is difficult to derive the output resistance in general, because all capacitor voltages are different. In this paper, the general analysis of the output resistance in the digital-selecting type SC power supply is proposed. The analyzed results are verified using HSPICE simulations. © 2013 ICIC International.
