Modeling of static var compensator and its application in voltage stability analysis of power systems

This paper prescribed a modeling of static var compensator (SVC) and its application in voltage stability analysis. Base frequency equivalent reactance and susceptance of SVC are expressed as an explicit function of its control angle and Newton-Raphson power flow equations are derived. In order to adequately represent the operating limit of SVC, an augmented bus type named as PQV is introduced. Based on IEEE-300 and IEEE-30 bus systems, the high efficiency and good robustness of the modeling are verified, and then the minimum singular and condition number index are used to evaluate the effect of SVC on the voltage stability of power system.
